With the planting of trees, work began today in Smederevo on the Project for Greening Part of the “Ćirilovac” Retention Basin near the dam, in the Kovačićevo neighbourhood.
Highlighting the importance of preserving the environment and creating green oases in the urban area, the President of the Provisional Authority of the City, Jasmina Vojinović, marked the occasion today by planting several trees at the site.
The project, which aims to enhance the ambience of the area around the “Ćirilovac” retention basin, is worth RSD 1,470,000.
It is being carried out with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, which is providing 70 per cent of the funding, while the City of Smederevo has allocated 30 per cent.
The project provides for the planting of 125 deciduous saplings (sycamore, field maple, lime and ash). These are native species that suit the habitat conditions of the site and whose morphological characteristics fit in with the ambience of the area.
The tree planting has been entrusted to workers of Smederevo’s PUC “Zelenilo i groblja”.
