At the City Administration in Smederevo, the Mayor, Jasmina Vojinović, presented local farmers with rulings granting subsidies for the insurance of crops, fruit and animals in 2026.
On that occasion, she stressed that the City of Smederevo continues to provide concrete support to farmers, recognising the importance of insurance in protecting production.
“The City of Smederevo has been paying considerable attention to farmers.
When we compared our spending with that of cities of a similar size, we saw that we had allocated significantly more funds to supporting agriculture.
This year we have allocated RSD 110 million for these purposes.
I would particularly like to point out that not a single application submitted by our farmers for any of the planned measures has been rejected.
As regards the measures subsidised by the City of Smederevo, we make sure that support at national and local level is aligned.
In the coming period, we will also try to have our professional services organise help with filling in the necessary forms directly in the villages, as that is where most of our farmers live.
When it comes to subsidising the insurance of agricultural holdings, the state covers 70 per cent of the insurance costs, while the remaining 30 per cent is provided by the City of Smederevo.
We are also considering ways of improving hail protection by procuring a more modern and efficient protection system.
This is particularly important for our area, where fruit growing is one of the major branches of agriculture,” the Mayor stressed, adding that the main aim is to give farmers the best possible working conditions, protect their investments and help them plan the future of their holdings with greater certainty.
