Scholarship contracts handed over to Roma secondary school pupils and university students

Published

Scholarship contracts for secondary school pupils and university students of Roma nationality for the 2023/2024 school year were handed over today in the Assembly Hall of the City of Smederevo.

The local government has allocated RSD 2,400,000 from the budget for this purpose.

“Smederevo is one of the few cities in Serbia that has a Local Action Plan for Improving the Position of Roma Men and Women, and in this way we want to help improve your status in the community to which we all belong.

Thanks to the scholarships, year after year we have a growing number of Roma pupils enrolling in and completing secondary school, and there are also those who go on to continue their education at university.

Our aim is to have as many educated people among you as possible, because education is the foundation for the development of society, and of every individual on the way to securing their own livelihood.

In this, the support of your parents, who have recognised how great a role school plays in your growing up and maturing, is also very important to us,” said the President of the Provisional Authority of the City, Jasmina Vojinović, wishing the scholarship holders good results in their studies.

Scholarships were awarded to 44 secondary school pupils and two university students.

The City of Smederevo will continue to support all pupils and students who do well in their education, it was said at today’s ceremony at which the contracts were presented to the scholarship holders.
