A significant anniversary was marked today in Osipaonica: 200 years of the Church of the Holy Archangel Gabriel.
On this occasion, in the presence of the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, representatives of the city leadership and a large number of local residents, worshippers and visitors, a Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was served, led by His Eminence Ignatije, Archbishop of Požarevac and Metropolitan of Braničevo.
In a spirit of togetherness, after the service, the programme continues with performances by a cultural and artistic society, pupils of the primary school in Osipaonica, and the groups Trio “M” and “Legende”.
The Church of the Holy Archangel Gabriel in Osipaonica, a cornerstone of the spirituality, tradition and history of this place, was built in 1826 on the site of the former Lalić Monastery and is an endowment of Prince Miloš.
Together with the Church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in the Old Cemetery, it is one of the oldest religious buildings in Smederevo.
The churchyard also contains a more recent church, dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and consecrated in 2014.
