From 2 to 8 June, a group of ten pupils and three teachers from Primary School “Irisi” in the French city of Lyon is staying in Smederevo and at Primary School “Vuk Karadžić” in Lipe.
The reason for the visit is their joint participation in the international Erasmus project, which provides funding for mobility and cooperation in education, youth training and sport and is supported by the European Union.
On this occasion, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, today hosted a reception in the Blue Hall of the City Administration for the guests from France and for representatives of Primary School “Vuk Karadžić” from Lipe.
“We are delighted that the pupils and teachers of our school in Lipe have connected in this way with a school from Lyon through the Erasmus project. This visit is an opportunity for them to work and learn together, to get to know our cultural and historical heritage, to find out more about how the education system works in Serbia, and also to make new friends and colleagues,” the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, said, wishing the guests a pleasant stay in Serbia, in Smederevo and at the “Vuk Karadžić” school.

The aim of the project entitled “Women Who Reached the Stars”, which now links these two schools, is for the participating pupils to learn something new about remarkable women whose achievements can be role models for new generations, and to promote intercultural cooperation and learning.
The “Irisi” school from Lyon and the “Vuk Karadžić” school have been cooperating on various projects for six years, and this visit is simply a continuation of a successful partnership, said Tatjana Dimitrijević, head teacher of the school in Lipe.
