Visit to the works on the Transfer Station

Published

Today is World Environment Day. Symbolically, on this day, wishing to highlight that a healthier environment will be one of the most important and urgent tasks in the coming years, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, together with her deputy, Vladimir Nešić, the President of the City Assembly, Milan Perić, and other associates, today checked on the progress of the construction of the Transfer Station at Godominsko polje, the most important environmental project in the entire Podunavlje District.

“Nothing is more important than a healthy environment. It is the starting point from which everything begins. That is why, on World Environment Day itself, 5 June, I want to point out that this is one of our most important missions for future generations.

With the completion of the Transfer Station, we are solving a decades-old problem of disposing of municipal waste from the city and from 27 villages.

The total value of this investment is RSD 341 million. At this site at Godominsko polje, in addition to the construction of a recycling yard, a transfer station and a sorting line, work is also under way on building a water supply network and an access road. This work is worth RSD 66 million, which has been provided by the City.

Immediately after the Transfer Station is put into operation, we must close and remediate the existing substandard landfill. We will also work on removing illegal dumps, which harm the environment and spoil the appearance of the places where they appear.

It is very important that every day we spread and raise people’s awareness of the need to protect a healthy environment, to change our habits and to behave responsibly towards nature,” the Mayor said.
