The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, today signed a contract at the Ministry of Public Investment for construction works to reconstruct part of the ground and first floors of the “Monopol” building, launching the capital project to convert this space into a modern preschool.
The signing of the contract with representatives of the contractors’ consortium was attended by Darko Glišić, Minister of Public Investment in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, who announced that the adaptation works would begin within a week or two.
With this capital project, worth a total of RSD 343,293,602.65 including VAT, the City of Smederevo will gain a new, functional and modern space for preschool children, with 300 places for little ones and around 40 new jobs.

The adaptation will cover an area of 2,400 square metres and will include removing the existing partition walls and the floor, wall and ceiling coverings, building new circulation routes, fire exits, a pedestrian ramp and an external staircase, and repairing the façade.
New installations, heating and ventilation systems and decorative lighting for the building are also planned.
Particular attention will be paid to preserving the building’s architectural features, as the “Monopol” building, built in 1932, has protected status.
The deadline for completing the works is 365 calendar days from the date the contractor takes possession of the site.

“The signing of this contract is an important step towards eliminating the waiting list for enrolling children in preschool.
It is particularly important to us that, with the support of the Ministry of Public Investment, we have secured funding for a project of great importance to our families and our youngest citizens.
Smederevo must continue to invest in preschool infrastructure and in creating better conditions for our children to grow up in.
By adapting this building, we will gain a high-quality, functional space for our youngest citizens.
I would like to thank the Ministry of Public Investment for its support and cooperation.
I am confident that by working together we will complete this project successfully and that the results of the investment will soon be visible.
In the coming period, the City of Smederevo, in close cooperation with the competent national institutions and the contractors, will step up all related activities so that the adapted space in the Monopol building can be brought into use on schedule and handed over to the preschool institution.
This project continues the local government’s strategy of systematically improving public infrastructure and raising the quality of life of all the citizens of Smederevo,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, after signing the contract.
