To mark the International Day of Older Persons, representatives of the City of Smederevo today visited the residents and staff of the Home for the Elderly.
With this visit, 1 October was marked as every year, a date that highlights the importance of intergenerational solidarity and of society’s care for its oldest members.
The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, addressed those present and thanked the residents for everything they have contributed to the community throughout their lives and working careers:
“This day is an opportunity to remind ourselves how precious your experience, your wisdom and your life stories are to all of us.
Through your work, knowledge and love, you built our country, our city and the society in which we live and raise our families. That is why we owe respect to every year of your lives, to your experience and to everything you have given to others throughout your lives,” the Mayor said.

She also expressed special thanks to the staff of the Home for the Elderly, stressing that their work is much more than a profession, as their daily care for the residents deserves sincere admiration and respect.
The celebration of 1 October, the International Day of Older Persons, was rounded off with a special cultural and artistic programme performed by children from the Cultural and Artistic Society “Lipe”.
