Following the extraordinary session of the City Emergency Situations Headquarters held in connection with the fire at the city dump, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, today visited the site to see the situation on the ground for herself, where all the competent teams are working to stabilise the situation fully.
She thanked the firefighters, the public utility companies and everyone who took part in putting out the fire, stressing that the second phase of the works on the remediation and complete closure of the landfill will begin soon, which will prevent similar incidents and protect the environment.
“We are closely monitoring the situation regarding the fire. The teams remain on full alert and on site for as long as necessary,” the Mayor said, stressing that the local government is also in constant contact with the Ministry of Environmental Protection on this matter.
