In order to support parents and pupils who are finishing primary school, the City of Smederevo, in cooperation with the Regional Centre for Professional Development of Employees in Education, has decided this year to make it easier for eighth-graders to prepare for the final exam that precedes enrolment in secondary school.
Preparatory classes will be organised at the Regional Centre every weekend, starting on 5 April, and the deadline for applications is 2 April 2025.
The preparatory classes in mathematics and Serbian will take place in groups of no more than 30 pupils and are free of charge. They will be taught by teachers of Serbian and mathematics from Smederevo primary schools.
“In line with the policy pursued by our President, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the City of Smederevo is striving and finding ways to put the family, the pillar of society, at the centre of everything.
Young people are our greatest asset and our future, and everything we do, we do for them, in the hope that they will stay in their city.
Now is the right moment to support not only children but also parents in this way, because we all know that the final exam is a turning point in every child’s future life.
When pupils enrol in a school they love, they will also find it easier to finish it, but first they need to put in extra effort to achieve good results in the entrance exam. For this reason, in our communication with parents we will insist that children attend the preparatory classes regularly.
Our aim is to give all interested eighth-graders the opportunity, through free classes at the Regional Centre, to enrol in the secondary school of their choice and, after finishing it, to become good workers in their professions,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, at today’s press conference, which was also attended by Aleksandra Mitić, Member of the City Council responsible for education and culture, and Veljko Barović, Director of the Regional Centre for Professional Development of Employees in Education Smederevo.

Every year, the City of Smederevo takes part in providing free textbooks for first-graders and scholarships for secondary school and university students, for which twice as much funding has been allocated this year as last year.
In addition, every year the City provides New Year gift packages for all children from the territory of the City of Smederevo up to the age of 10.
