Published

At today’s session, the City Assembly of Smederevo adopted the information on the revenue and receipts collected and the expenditure and outlays made from the budget of the City of Smederevo in the first six months of 2026.

By a majority of councillors’ votes, the Assembly also accepted the information on the degree to which planned and implemented activities are aligned under the business programmes of the public enterprises, capital companies and other forms of organisation that are subject to the Law on Public Enterprises and were founded by the City of Smederevo, for the first six months of this year.

The Assembly also adopted, by a majority vote, the proposed Detailed Regulation Plan for the construction, reconstruction and modernisation of the district heating network and facilities in Smederevo.

The Assembly adopted the Decision on Awarding New Year Gift Packages in 2026 to Children Born between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2026 inclusive.

The proposed Decision on the System of Incentives and Benefits for Members of Volunteer Fire Brigades Established in the Territory of the City of Smederevo was also voted through.

As an additional item on the agenda, the Assembly adopted the draft decision on launching a public-private partnership procedure, without elements of a concession, for the project to build a sanitary landfill in the territory of the City of Smederevo, together with the draft ruling on appointing a project team to carry out the project.

These are the initial acts that need to be prepared in order to launch the procedure for building a sanitary landfill.

Speaking about the importance of this initiative, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, stressed that it is an extremely important issue for Smederevo.

“This initiative is, in fact, about closing a circle, and it concerns the disposal of municipal waste in the territory of the City of Smederevo.

We previously secured funding from the Ministry of Environmental Protection to close the non-sanitary landfill.

We have already brought a large number of villages into the organised waste collection system and have provided suitable lorries and containers for it. From 1 October, the remaining villages will be covered too. However, municipal waste is still being generated and we must find a suitable and sustainable way of disposing of it.

This is a public-private partnership without elements of a concession, which means that the City will not take part in paying the private partner.

We are determined to build our own landfill, meeting all the prescribed environmental standards, intended solely for the needs of Smederevo.

To know whether and how we will carry out this project, we must first do the necessary analysis.

Once we have done the analysis and considered all the options, we will choose the most cost-effective one,” the Mayor said.

Answering councillors’ questions about increasing capacity at the Preschool Institution “Naša radost”, she spoke about the forthcoming project to adapt the Monopol building as a kindergarten and about the construction of a central kitchen in Papazovac, as the City’s aim is to eliminate the waiting list for kindergarten places.

She pointed out that a great deal of work has also been done to improve conditions in school buildings across the city.

Regarding the budget of the City of Smederevo, she noted that this year’s budget was realistically planned and that, according to the figures for the first six months, all revenue is coming in as planned.

“My task as Mayor is to secure as much funding as possible through financial support from the relevant ministries for high-quality city projects,” the Mayor concluded.
