The 137th Smederevo Autumn, which the city organises in celebration of grapes and wine and which attracts more and more visitors every year, began in Smederevo yesterday.
This September was no exception. As always, Smederevo welcomed guests from various parts of Serbia and the region as a good host, dressed in the most beautiful colours that only autumn, the most creative and most fruitful artist of all the seasons, can offer.
Last night the “Smederevo Always Open” parade made its way along Karađorđeva Street, Save Nemanjića Street and Vuka Karadžića Street to the City Square, followed with great interest. Taking part were costumed participants portraying famous historical figures of Smederevo and Serbia, folklore groups, athletes, schoolchildren and children from the preschool institution.
The large bunch of grapes, the symbol of Smederevo Autumn, was then put up on the square, followed by performances by the parade participants.

The opening ceremony of the 137th Smederevo Autumn was held in the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress. It began with an address by Despot Đurađ and the symbolic handing over of the keys of the fortress to Mayor Jasmina Vojinović, who declared the festival open.
“Over the centuries, Smederevo Autumn has become much more than a tradition: it is a symbol of our identity. It brings generations together, reminding us of the rich history of our region, of our vineyards and orchards, and of all those who have shaped our community through their work, knowledge and effort.
Smederevo is a city with a soul, a city with a history that can be felt in every stone of our walls and in every grape that grows here. Every year, Smederevo Autumn reminds us how important it is to preserve and develop these values, not only as a memory of the past, but also as the foundations for the future we are building together.
This festival is an opportunity to celebrate the fruits of our land and to show the strength of our economy, our tourism and our culture. It brings us together as hosts who proudly present everything that makes our city special and recognisable, not only in Serbia but further afield,” the Mayor said at the opening ceremony of the 137th Smederevo Autumn.

The official opening of the festival in the Small Town was followed by a memorable event, a concert by the orchestra and choir “Virtuozi” conducted by Bojan Suđić, and Vlado Georgijev performed on the City Square from 22:00.
The Smederevo Autumn celebrations continue today and tomorrow with programmes on the City Square, in the Wine Town and at Smederevo Fortress.
