Visit to the water treatment plant

Published

“Smederevo is one of the few cities in Serbia that maintained a regular water supply to consumers during this summer’s long heatwaves and did not introduce restrictions even for a moment,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, during this evening’s visit to Smederevo’s water treatment plant in Šalinačka Street.

On that occasion, together with her associates and in conversation with the Director of PUC “Vodovod”, Srđan Stojković, and the employees, she learned in more detail how the plant operates both in normal circumstances and in situations such as the one this summer has brought.

“This is an opportunity to thank you for your impeccable and dedicated work and to congratulate you on your efficient response. The local government will continue to pay special attention to water supply, upgrading the system and extending the water supply network, especially in the Morava villages. These are very expensive projects, a great deal of funding needs to be secured, and for some of the projects we will seek help from the state. Experience so far has shown that, with healthy communication between the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the local government, no problem is truly unsolvable.

“During the three heatwaves so far, daily water consumption in Smederevo has ranged from 420 to 430 litres per second. Our two water treatment plants, in Godominsko polje and in Šalinac, have produced sufficient quantities of water and consumers have not experienced any shortage, which particularly pleases and encourages us. There were also no interruptions in the operation of the wells in rural areas during the hot days,” Stojković points out, adding that the Smederevo “Vodovod” system is completely stable, despite the increased consumption recorded during the hot days.
