Published

Nataša Stanisavljević, Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, and the Head of the Reception Sector, Ana Đunović, visited Smederevo today.
They held a meeting at the City Administration with the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, the Head of the City Administration, Goran Milentijević, the Trustee for Refugees and Displaced Persons in Smederevo, Biljana Đurović, and members of the Commission for the Allocation of Assistance to Refugees, Internally Displaced Persons and Returnees under Readmission Agreements, Ivana Stamenković and Đulijeta Sulić.

The talks covered the activities carried out by the Commissariat and the City of Smederevo, with the aim of continuing their successful cooperation in improving the position of refugees, internally displaced persons during their displacement and returnees under readmission agreements.

Assistance programmes for these categories of persons were recently announced in the territory of the City of Smederevo. The public call for the allocation of food and firewood packages, with transport, to the most vulnerable families of refugees, internally displaced persons during their displacement and returnees under readmission agreements has closed, while the public call for the allocation of assistance to improve the living conditions of internally displaced persons during their displacement and of refugees, in the form of building materials and equipment, is under way, as is the call for the allocation of assistance to meet the housing needs of internally displaced persons, refugees and returnees under readmission agreements through the purchase of a rural house with a garden plot.

“Today’s meeting with the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration has confirmed how a local government, in cooperation with the Commissariat and with the support of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the Government of the Republic and the relevant ministries, can successfully resolve important issues concerning vulnerable groups of the population: refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees under readmission agreements,” the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, stressed on that occasion.

“The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia is continuing its intensive work on providing housing for these categories of persons, and together with local governments we are striving to find the best solutions to improve their status, so that they are provided with all the conditions necessary for a dignified life,” said Commissioner Nataša Stanisavljević, praising the cooperation with the City of Smederevo and the Mayor, Jasmina Vojinović.

The meeting was followed by a visit to one of the families of displaced persons in the territory of the City of Smederevo who had expressed a need for certain assistance programmes implemented jointly by the Commissariat and the City of Smederevo.

The Mayor of Smederevo and the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration presented the family members with gifts.
