A meeting was held today at the Smederevo City Administration between the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, and the Assistant Minister of Family Care and Demography of the Republic of Serbia, Biljana Rakić, on improving cooperation and strengthening the position of the family as the fundamental pillar of society.

Valuing the importance of the family, the City of Smederevo helps all married couples in their efforts to become parents. “The proposal is that this year, in addition to there being no age limit for couples, the number of attempts should also be unlimited, while the funding will be increased from the previous 400,000 to 600,000 dinars per married couple,” the Mayor said, inviting all couples who need help to come forward.

The Assistant Minister presented this year’s initiative to give gifts to all mothers whose babies were born on 1 January this year in maternity hospitals in the Republic of Serbia. “This is just one of a series of steps expected in 2025 aimed at the economic empowerment of families. The parental allowance, with one-off financial assistance of RSD 500,000 for the first child and amounts paid in instalments of RSD 600,000 for the second, RSD 2,280,000 for the third and RSD 3,180,000 for the fourth child, together with subsidies of up to EUR 20,000 for married couples with children buying their first home, represents significant state support for all families,” said the Assistant Minister, expressing the hope that this year would be a year of babies, something everyone is working towards, from local governments to the Government of the Republic of Serbia and President Aleksandar Vučić.

After the meeting, they visited mothers whose children were born on 1 January 2025 in the Smederevo maternity hospital. The Assistant Minister and the Mayor of Smederevo presented all the mothers with gifts.
