Transfer station a priority for the City of Smederevo

Published

On Monday, 10 April 2023, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jovan Beč, signed with the
Ministry of Environmental Protection the Contract on Co-financing the Implementation of the Project for Building a Waste Management System in the Territory of the City of Smederevo in 2023. The project concerns the construction of the future transfer station, which will solve the long-standing problem faced by the City of
Smederevo with the disposal and landfilling of municipal waste in the urban and rural local communities. The total funds for implementing the Project for Building a Waste Management System in the Territory of the City of Smederevo amount to RSD 341,421,286.87.
To implement the Project, the Ministry has provided funds amounting to
RSD 273,137,029.50, while the City has provided RSD 68,284,257.37.
On this occasion, which concerns one of the leading priorities of the City of Smederevo, the Mayor held a press conference. “It is a great honour for me to inform you that yesterday, on behalf of the City, I signed a contract with the Ministry of Environmental Protection on building a transfer station in our city. Of the total amount, the City has allocated twenty per cent of the funds, that is RSD 68,284,257, while the competent
Ministry has provided eighty per cent, RSD 273,137,029. The total amount of funding is therefore RSD 341,421,286. As for the deadlines, nine months will pass from the signing of the contract to the completion of the transfer station.
Many thanks to Minister Irena Vujović for the funds allocated. I have stressed many times that this is one of the major priorities for the city. As you know, we collect municipal waste only from the city itself and from one part of Radinac. Building the transfer station will create the conditions for us to collect municipal waste from all urban and rural local communities. I want to point out that, following the policy of our President, Aleksandar Vučić, the City will continue to develop and follow the path of success, providing our citizens with the conditions they need for life. A project to remediate the existing illegal dump is also planned,” said Mayor Beč.

Mayor Beč also expressed his great gratitude to all his associates who were actively involved in developing the project for the future transfer station. As for the site of the transfer station, which according to the Mayor is in the immediate vicinity of the city landfill, clearing began some ten days ago.

All the conditions for announcing the public procurement have now been met, and the Mayor expects the public procurement for the construction of the transfer station to be announced within the next week.
The foundation stone for the transfer station is expected to be laid in June at the latest, and the station is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.
In his address, the Mayor also announced that, through the “Sail
Serbia” project, the marina will be desilted at some point in the coming period, to be followed later by the preparation of design documentation for building a marina. It was announced that on 30 April a tourist cruise ship from France will sail into the port of Smederevo, which is very important for our city.
The Mayor also announced that this year the City will provide free textbooks for first-year pupils, saying that the parents of first-year pupils need not worry about this, and expressed the expectation that in the coming years the City will work towards providing new textbooks for pupils of all school ages.
