The Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Nataša Stanisavljević, visited Smederevo today, where she discussed the results achieved so far and future projects to improve the position of the most vulnerable groups of the population with the city leadership.

At the meeting at the City Administration, the Commissioner and her associates were hosted by the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, the Head of the City Administration, Ivana Stamenković, and Biljana Đurović and Đulijeta Sulić from the City Office of the Trustee for Refugees and Displaced Persons.

Commissioner Stanisavljević praised the cooperation with Smederevo and announced the continuation of programmes for refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees under the Readmission Agreement.

Particular emphasis was placed on the economic empowerment of families through the provision of food packages, firewood and building materials and the purchase of rural houses with garden plots.

“The state of Serbia and the Commissariat, in cooperation with local governments, are striving to find the best solutions to improve your status and living conditions,” Stanisavljević stressed, adding that Smederevo is a reliable partner in that mission.

The Mayor, Jasmina Vojinović, said that the City remains a firm source of support for all citizens who need help.
“Our task is to create the conditions for lasting integration and a better future for your families. Our focus is on every individual, which is also the backbone of the policy of President Aleksandar Vučić,” said Vojinović.

After the meeting, hygiene packages and food packages were distributed to citizens who had qualified for this assistance through a previous public call.

It was announced that the distribution of firewood will also begin soon, while the beneficiaries of assistance in building materials and of the programme for the purchase of rural houses with garden plots will be known once the commissions have completed their work.

The visit ended with a visit to two families of refugees and displaced persons who live in the territory of Smederevo.

In a direct conversation, Commissioner Nataša Stanisavljević and the Mayor, Jasmina Vojinović, learned about their everyday needs so that further steps towards strengthening them economically can be defined.
