Representatives of the US Embassy visit Smederevo

Published

Representatives of the Political and Economic Section of the US Embassy in Belgrade, Ellen Scholl, Iolanta Mura, Dejan Gajić and Ksenija Lazović, visited Smederevo today.

The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, the Head of the City Administration, Goran Milentijević, and the Head of the Department for Urban Planning, Construction and Investment, Dragan Krstić, talked with them about the business, economic and political situation in the city and about development opportunities under projects already prepared with the aim of creating better living conditions in the local community.

“Smederevo, as a city of rich history, tradition and culture and as a city that holds an important place in the Serbian economy, recognises the importance of building ties with other nations, especially when it comes to carrying out joint activities that improve people’s lives.

A recent example of successful cooperation between the City of Smederevo and the American people is the construction of the kindergarten in Drugovac, for which the US military’s European Command in Serbia provided us with financial assistance worth half a million dollars, and for which we are very grateful to you.

It is important to point out that in the past, through the operations of the Smederevo Steelworks, we also had very good cooperation with the American company U.S. Steel.

We believe that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the newly elected President of the USA, Donald Trump, will further improve cooperation between our two countries in all fields,” the Mayor of Smederevo said, welcoming the guests, and then presented the most important goals the City of Smederevo wants to achieve in the future.

The guests from the US Embassy wanted to learn more about the priorities and challenges facing Smederevo, and showed particular interest in its tourism potential, Smederevo’s participation in the upcoming “EXPO 2027” exhibition and the opportunities for promoting the city to American tourists.

The representatives of the Political and Economic Section of the US Embassy in Belgrade then met the Head of the Department for Economy, Entrepreneurship, Local Economic Development and Public Procurement, Dušan Popovac, and his associates, to take a more detailed look with the guests at the economic situation in the city and the opportunities for further development.
