Today, at the City Administration, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, and the President of the City Assembly, Milan Perić, held a reception for representatives of the Pensioners’ Association of the City of Smederevo, the Pensioners’ Association “Treće doba” and the City Organisation of Disabled Workers.
“This meeting with you is an opportunity to exchange views on how together we can help improve the community in which we all live and how we can improve your status, but it is also a unique opportunity to show you our respect and to thank you for everything you have done for us, for our country and for our Smederevo, because through your effort and work, even in difficult circumstances, you created better living conditions for us and for the younger generations,” said the Mayor, Jasmina Vojinović, addressing the representatives of the pensioners’ organisations.
She recalled that the local government is successfully implementing the policy of the state led by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, who always strives for a better life for our people, especially pensioners, for their financial situation and for all the conditions that need to be ensured so that they can live their retirement in dignity.

“The City of Smederevo follows that path and, as part of its support in the field of social protection, assists pensioners and people over 65 through various kinds of services, such as “Home Help”, the payment of one-off and emergency financial assistance when our older fellow citizens find themselves in need, the provision of free legal aid, co-financing the programmes of associations of persons with disabilities whose members are pensioners and people over 65, subsidising public transport season tickets, access to vulnerable energy customer status and the like,” the Mayor said, adding that the Strategy for the Development of Social Protection in the City of Smederevo until 2027 provides for opening clubs for older people in local settlements and developing counselling, therapeutic and socio-educational services.
The representatives of the pensioners’ associations were also greeted by the President of the City Assembly of Smederevo, Milan Perić, who said that, according to figures from August this year, there are 23,335 pensioners in Smederevo.
Last year 550 pensioners from Smederevo used free ten-day rehabilitation stays at Serbian spas, and this year 653 beneficiaries did so. The lowest pension in Smederevo is RSD 24,987, it was said at the meeting with the pensioners, who can expect the promised 10.9 per cent pension increase from January next year.
