The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, today visited the employees of the “Čistoća” work unit, which is part of PUC “Zelenilo i groblja”.
“I am pleased to be here with you today and to have the opportunity to thank you, on behalf of the City of Smederevo and in my own name, for doing so much through your work and commitment to make our city much more beautiful and cleaner.
Your job is not at all easy. You work in difficult conditions, in sun, rain and snow, and there is almost no rest for you. The fact that we can always count on you is encouraging, and over the past period you have shown how to love your city and how to work responsibly and honestly.
The local government is striving to create better conditions for your work, to equip all the public enterprises and renew their vehicle fleets so that you can carry out your regular activities more easily.
When I was elected Mayor, I said at the first session of the City Assembly that the entire administrative apparatus and all the public enterprises must be at the service of citizens, because the ordinary person must be the centre of our world, and our task is to create a better quality of life for all the residents of Smederevo.
We are also here today because of two new refuse collection lorries, for which around RSD 70 million was set aside. They are intended for extending organised waste collection to rural areas. As early as the second half of October we will start collecting waste from Dobri Do, Mihajlovac, Vrbovac, Vodanj, Seone and Udovice. That is the first phase, after which waste collection will begin in all the villages, so that we no longer have illegal dumps,” the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, said, among other things, announcing that two more new waste collection lorries will arrive at the “Čistoća” work unit at the beginning of November.
The “Čistoća” work unit employs 140 workers.
Every day, the lorries of PUC “Zelenilo i groblja” transport between 300 and 320 cubic metres of waste to the city landfill in Smederevo.
