The seventh “Knights and Legends” festival is being held from 1 to 3 May in the Large Town of Smederevo Fortress, organised by the “Beli orlovi” Association for the Preservation of Old Crafts and Skills with the support of the City of Smederevo, Smederevo Cultural Centre and PE “Smederevska tvrđava”.
“Smederevo Fortress, one of the largest lowland fortresses in Europe, will be the ideal stage for this epic spectacle, and the City of Smederevo will welcome guests from all over the world with pride, tradition and hospitality,” said, among other things, the acting director of PE “Smederevska tvrđava”, Marija Marković Stavrić, declaring the festival officially open and inviting all lovers of history and chivalry from all over Serbia and the region not to miss the chance to attend in person a world-class event of a kind rarely seen.
In the Medieval Village, alongside the host, the “Beli orlovi” Association, associations from more than twenty countries will present themselves to visitors, with 260 knights competing in group battles and duels.
Workshops in archery, falconry, horse riding, fencing, medieval painting and various old crafts and skills give visitors the chance to take an active part in the festival programme.
Particular emphasis and attention are given to children and their education about the Serbian and European heritage of the Middle Ages.
Music groups recreating the music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance will provide further entertainment for visitors.
A special experience for the audience will be the performance by the falconry and dance sections of the “Beli orlovi”, who will showcase the art of noble hunting and medieval dance, and an indispensable part of the festival is the medieval bazaar of equipment, tools and weapons of the Middle Ages made by specialised craftsmen, members of associations from Serbia and around the world.
