With a special programme, in the presence of the City of Smederevo leadership, local residents and parents, the “Zvezdice” kindergarten in Skobalj officially opened today, expanding the capacity of the Preschool Institution “Naša radost” in Smederevo.
The reconstruction of the existing building for use as a kindergarten began on 7 July 2023. The project included construction, plumbing, electrical and mechanical works and the installation of fire safety equipment.
In addition, a new well was dug in the yard for the kindergarten, and a diesel generator was purchased and installed.
The “Zvezdice” kindergarten has 170 square metres of space, the investment is worth around RSD 23 million, and the project was financed from the budget of the City of Smederevo. An additional RSD 7 million was secured through donations to landscape the area around the building. The plan is to convert the building next to the kindergarten into a crèche as well, with the works expected to be completed by the end of 2025. This is also the third kindergarten to open in the city’s territory within a year.
Last December the kindergarten in Radinac opened its doors to 350 children, and at the end of August this year the kindergarten in Drugovac opened for another 100 little ones.
“The finest thing a local government can do is to care for its youngest citizens, and this is exactly the right way to care for them.
It is a fact that the City of Smederevo has a problem with kindergarten places.
I thank the preschool teachers, who carry a very heavy burden and responsibility in working with children, because they are a mainstay and support for families, making sure that children spend their time well through their stay and play. The City of Smederevo plans to continue expanding the capacity of the preschool institution in the future. This is also proof that the City of Smederevo will care equally for all its citizens, both those living in the centre of Smederevo and those in all the villages of the Smederevo municipality.
I want the children to spend many happy moments here and to be ready to start school when the time comes,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, at the opening ceremony of the kindergarten in Skobalj.
The Preschool Institution “Naša radost” in Smederevo currently has 3,500 children, and around 390 children are on the waiting list for enrolment.
