Kindergarten opens in Kolari

Published

With joint funding from the Ministry of Education and the City of Smederevo, the adaptation of the old school building in Kolari for use as a kindergarten has been completed.

The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, toured the premises of the “Sunce” kindergarten today together with her associates.

The new kindergarten is opening its doors to a mixed group of 25 children aged from 3 until they start school. This is the first time such a group has been formed, as previously Kolari only had a group of preschool-age children.

“This is proof that we care equally for the city and for rural areas, and it is important to us that all children have absolutely equal conditions for learning and socialising,” the Mayor stressed, wishing the children happy and carefree days at kindergarten.

She urged the staff of Smederevo’s preschool institution to keep working with the same dedication as before, while the local government will continue to open new kindergartens and renovate existing ones.

For the kindergarten in Kolari, premises were adapted in the old building of the Primary School “Ilija Milosavljević Kolarac”, which has been almost completely renovated, and according to the Mayor, Jasmina Vojinović, the building’s façade will also be renovated during the coming summer holidays.

In addition to a room for educational work with kindergarten-age children, the “Sunce” building in Kolari now also has a refurbished dining room, a kitchen, a school library, a classroom for after-school care and new toilets, providing all the conditions needed for a good-quality and safe stay for the children.

The works, carried out in cooperation between the local government and the Ministry of Education, included completely replacing the roof covering, refurbishing all the existing rooms (lowering the ceilings and painting the walls, replacing the floor coverings, the sanitary fittings and the kitchen tiles, and the electrical installation), adapting the hall, adding a toilet block, landscaping the forecourt and the external staircase, and laying a sports surface for the children’s play area.

The Preschool Institution “Naša radost” currently has around 3,400 children, while 164 are waiting for a place. It is encouraging that the opening of new kindergartens is reducing the waiting list.
