Job fair held

Published

A job fair was held today in the foyer of the Cultural Centre, organised by the National Employment Service with the support of the City of Smederevo.

A total of 31 employers took part in the fair, seeking to recruit 472 workers.

“Creating favourable conditions for attracting new investment to our country, an important part of the responsible policy of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, together with our constant commitment to improving the living standards of all citizens, is helping year after year to lower the unemployment rate in Serbia, and in the City of Smederevo as well.

In 2025, RSD 17 million has been allocated from the budget of the City of Smederevo for active employment policy measures, and financial support of RSD 10.5 million is also being provided by the Republic of Serbia, through the relevant ministry.

The priority programmes of the Local Employment Action Plan focus on self-employment, new employment and support for public works measures, through which we will contribute to the employment of people registered with the National Employment Service, primarily those in the category of persons who are harder to employ,” the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, stressed at the opening of the fair.

.

“The National Employment Service always supports employers and jobseekers, because it is very important to us that our economy keeps growing and that people find work, while job fairs are an opportunity for employers and job candidates to meet face to face, talk, introduce themselves to each other and create an opportunity to sign employment contracts,” said the Director General of the National Employment Service, Milan Bosnić, wishing today’s event success for both the employers and all those seeking work.

The most sought-after occupations at today’s job fair in Smederevo were in mechanical and electrical engineering: metalworkers, machine fitters, welders, painters, mechanics, electricians and engineers in both fields.

Employers are also looking for sewing machinists, production operators, waiters and cooks, shop assistants, construction workers and labourers.

At the end of April this year, 2,266 unemployed people were registered with the Smederevo branch of the National Employment Service, 1,338 of them women.
