To mark 1 October, the International Day of Older Persons, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, together with the President of the City Assembly, Milan Perić, and other associates, today visited the residents of the Home for the Elderly in Smederevo and presented them with gifts for the occasion.
“We are here with you today to mark this date, but also to say a big thank you. We want to meet you on all the other days too, so that we can constantly nurture our bond with you.
You have woven your lives into our country and shown us how to love it. We have learned a great deal from you, and the knowledge and experience you have passed on to us have helped us.
It is our task to make the younger generations aware that we must take great care of the position of older people and of the respect shown to them.
The local government in Smederevo is grateful to you for everything you have done for us, and for that reason we will continue to give you support and help in everything we can provide as a city, because we see you as our family. You are part of our local community, and we must never forget that you built our country and our city, that you raised them from the ashes, and that you endured hard times of wars and numerous reforms,” the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, said, among other things, addressing the residents of the Home for the Elderly.

Members of the Cultural and Artistic Society “Papazovac” also contributed a special programme to mark 1 October, the International Day of Older Persons, and their performance delighted the residents of the Home for the Elderly in Smederevo.
