First anniversary of the massacre in Malo Orašje and Dubona marked

Published

The first anniversary of the deaths of six young men was marked today in Malo Orašje with a commemoration, the laying of wreaths and the lighting of candles at the memorial in Ravni Gaj, on the spot where they were killed in last year’s massacre: Petar Mitrović, Nemanja Stevanović, Lazar Milovanović, Marko Mitrović, Aleksandar Milovanović and Nikola Milić.

Among the first to lay flowers at the memorial to those who were tragically killed in Malo Orašje were the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, and the Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, who then also visited the village of Dubona, where they paid tribute and laid flowers at the spot where three more young people lost their lives: Milan Panić, Kristina Panić and Dalibor Todorović.

On behalf of the City of Smederevo, a wreath was laid at the memorial to the victims of the mass murder in Malo Orašje by the Mayor, Jasmina Vojinović, followed by representatives of the Smederevo Police Department, the Ministry of Education and the Požarevac School Administration, representatives of FK Partizan and Crvena Zvezda, numerous delegations, citizens, and relatives and friends of the young men who were killed.

Organised by the City of Smederevo and in memory of the young men who were killed, the film “Heavenly Company” was screened, bearing witness to their lives, achievements, talents and dreams for the future.

The harrowing stories of their parents and family members, and the verses recited by their peers and their Serbian language teacher, left no one unmoved.

The commemorative gathering in Malo Orašje was also attended by the parents of the children who were tragically killed at Primary School “Vladislav Ribnikar” in Belgrade.

A memorial tournament with 12 teams was then played on the pitch of the “Ravni Gaj” club, preceded by a friendly match between the youth teams of FK Partizan and FK Crvena Zvezda.

It was announced that this tournament will be organised every May to keep alive the memory of the young lives tragically lost in the mass murder that took place in Malo Orašje and Dubona on 4 May last year.
