A press conference was held in Smederevo today on the occasion of the final workshop on drafting the Public Health Plan of the Podunavlje and Braničevo districts, organised by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities with the support of the City of Smederevo. The final workshop, “Support for Cities and Municipalities of the Podunavlje and Braničevo Districts”, presents the Draft Public Health Plans.
Those present were welcomed by the Mayor of Smederevo, Jovan Beč, who highlighted the importance of the Public Health Plan for the City of Smederevo. “It is a great honour and pleasure for me that we can host you in our city today, where after the conference you will have the opportunity to visit the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress and the Museum in Smederevo. The reason we have gathered here today is a good one: the drafting of an important strategic document, first and foremost for our city, the Public Health Plan of the City of Smederevo. Health is the most valuable resource of every individual, family, society and nation, and the safest investment in the future. The Public Health Plan sets out the carefully planned future steps and investments needed to strengthen and improve the primary health care system, which is the foundation of the entire health system. The Public Health Plan for the City of Smederevo will ensure continuity in solving problems in various areas that significantly affect the public health of our citizens,” the Mayor of Smederevo, Beč, stressed.

Those present were also welcomed by the Director of the Institute of Public Health Požarevac, Dr Ana
Jovanović, who pointed out the importance of drafting the Public Health Plan both for a city or municipality and for the state, because only by joining forces can we help Serbia become a country of healthy people, and of people who look after their health through preventive check-ups.
The workshop “Support for Cities and Municipalities of the Podunavlje and Braničevo Districts in Drafting Public Health Plans” is being implemented by the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities under the programme “Partnership for Good Local Governance”, supported by the Government of Switzerland.
Through the adoption of strategic documents and other forms of support for the health system, the City of Smederevo will continue to ensure the best conditions for treating citizens and adequate working conditions for medical staff.
