The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, today visited the “Sunce” institution, attended by children, young people and adults with developmental disabilities. The meeting with staff and service users was held to mark the eleventh anniversary of the institution’s founding and work.
“Over the past years, the professional and dedicated work of the staff, good communication with service users’ families and the support of the local government have proved that together we can contribute to a better quality of life for people who need our help, understanding, solidarity and empathy.
The City of Smederevo will continue to support the “Sunce” institution in its efforts to always provide staff and service users with all the necessary conditions in line with the prescribed standards in the field of social protection.
Our task is to take care of all the citizens of Smederevo, and especially of those who need this kind of help. This year we have allocated RSD 6.7 million more from the City budget for social protection than last year. In the coming period we want to develop and improve certain services so that, by applying a modern approach, we can achieve as many results as possible in this field of social care,” the Mayor said, congratulating the staff and service users on their special day.
After her address and words of welcome from Biljana Milošević, Acting Director of the “Sunce” institution, the service users performed a special programme for the guests and presented their works created in interactive workshops.

As a reminder, the “Sunce” institution began work on 18 July 2013 in premises in Kralja Petra Street, and was later moved, in order to provide more suitable conditions for service users, to the ground floor of a Smederevo preschool institution building in Karađorđevo brdo.
It currently has 19 service users, cared for by 8 staff, including two special education teachers, one educator, a nurse and a physiotherapist, as well as support staff. It has 200 square metres of space, containing a large day room, workrooms with interactive workshops, a sensory room and a dining room. All the space is equipped in line with the required standards.
The institution’s work is fully financed by the City of Smederevo, and free minibus transport to the institution is provided for service users every day.
Last year, with the support of the City of Smederevo, a five-day recreational stay in Banja Vrujci was also organised for service users, their parents and staff.
