Dear fellow citizens,
Regarding the current situation and the difficulties with public transport in our city, I wish to address you personally in order to clear up all the uncertainties and the various interpretations circulating in public.
The City of Smederevo has valid contracts with the transport company “Lasta” JSC Belgrade covering the transport of citizens over the age of 65, students with permanent residence in Smederevo, members of social and humanitarian organisations and citizens’ associations, as well as public enterprises and institutions founded by the City.
In addition, in order to solve the problems with urban and suburban public transport, the City Assembly of Smederevo adopted a ruling appointing an expert team to draw up a project for urban and suburban passenger transport as a public utility service in the territory of the City of Smederevo through a public-private partnership model, without elements of a concession.
The project has been completed and we expect to receive approval for it from the competent commission soon.
Private companies operating in our city have separate contracts for transporting their workers, as is the case with the company HBIS.
I fully understand your dissatisfaction and concern, as well as the frequent complaints we receive from you about regular services not running and some buses departing irregularly.
That is why we are actively working to solve this problem, and early next week a meeting will be held with representatives of the company that is the new owner of the transport company “Lasta” JSC Belgrade.
Our one shared goal at that meeting will be to overcome the current problems quickly and efficiently and to stabilise transport services in the interest of all the citizens of Smederevo.
Mayor of the City of Smederevo
Jasmina Vojinović
