Members of the Smederevo Police Department today celebrated the Day and patron saint’s day of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia and Police Day.
By solemnly taking the oath, 27 new members of the Ministry of Interior, the Police Department and the Department for Emergency Situations in Smederevo pledged to serve citizens and the state honourably, responsibly and professionally.
After the oath-taking ceremony, those present were addressed by the Head of the Smederevo Police Department, Police Major Marko Vujanović.
He congratulated his new colleagues and urged them to keep striving, to keep improving, to acquire new knowledge and experience, and to make courage, honour, integrity, humanity and dedication their core values.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by numerous guests, including the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović.
Police Day of the Republic of Serbia is marked in remembrance of 1862, when, on the feast of Pentecost, Serbian gendarmes played a decisive role in the clashes at Čukur Fountain in Belgrade and during the Turkish bombardment in the days that followed.
