In the presence of numerous guests, members of the Smederevo Police Department today marked the Day of the Ministry of Interior and Police Day, as well as their patron saint’s day, in a fitting manner.
The celebration, held in a festive spirit, was also attended by many citizens, for whom a presentation of some of the technical equipment, vehicles and gear available to our police was staged on Trg Republike as part of a tactical and technical display.

For the first time this year, the programme for marking the holiday also included a ceremonial oath-taking by 27 newly recruited members taking up duty in the Smederevo Police Department.
Recalling that police work is a very honourable and responsible task that brings many challenges and risks, the Head of the Smederevo Police Department, Vesela Milovanović, also stressed the importance of establishing good communication between the police and citizens in upholding the law and maintaining public order and peace in the Podunavlje District.

Addressing the ceremony to mark the holiday of the Ministry of Interior, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, said:
“This day has special significance because it is not only an opportunity to recall the values and role of the police in our society, but also to recognise the courage and dedication of the new members of the police who have decided to devote their lives to preserving peace and security in our city of Smederevo and in Serbia.
The oath you took today is sacred. It is a promise you make not only to yourselves and your loved ones, but also to every citizen of Smederevo and Serbia. You swear loyalty to Serbia, respect for the law and the protection of every individual, regardless of all the differences that may divide us. May your oath light your path of courage and integrity, because you are not merely guardians of order: you are a bulwark of hope and pride for our Serbia.”
