Published

In front of a large audience and distinguished guests from the world of film and public life, the ninth edition of the “Dunav Film Fest” film festival began in the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress.

At the start of the festival, the audience was addressed by the programme selector of the “Dunav Film Fest”, Igor Stanković, who pointed out that Smederevo is the capital of film these days, and by the actress Anica Dobra, who officially declared the festival open.

Stanković stressed that it was a special privilege that this year’s festival opened with the world premiere of the film “The House” by director Tanja Brzaković, whose screening was also attended by members of the cast.

The film’s director, Tanja Brzaković, thanked the festival organiser and the City of Smederevo for their hospitality and for the opportunity to hold the world premiere of her film in the authentic setting of Smederevo Fortress.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, and her associates.

Over the six days of the festival, Smederevo will be the main meeting place for filmmakers, actors and lovers of the seventh art, who will have the chance to see as many as 40 films.

Nine films will be shown in the main competition programme, and the audience will be able to watch these screenings every evening at 20:00 and 22:00 on the big screen in the authentic setting of the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress. A rich and varied side programme will be available at three other well-known locations in the city: the plateau by Karađorđe’s Mulberry Tree, Danube Park and the Cultural Centre.

This year’s “Dunav Film Fest” ends on Wednesday 26 August, when, following the official decision of the members of the expert jury, awards and prizes will be presented to the most successful films.

At the very close of the festival, from 20:00, the audience will enjoy an evening of film music with maestro Dušan Sekulić, his orchestra and a choir, followed by a screening of Emir Kusturica’s famous film “Do You Remember Dolly Bell?”.
