The 138th “Smederevo Autumn” has begun in Smederevo: a festival that the city organises in celebration of grapes and wine and that attracts more and more visitors every year.
The opening ceremony of this oldest tourism and business festival in Serbia was held in the setting of the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress. It began with the handing over of the keys of the fortress to the Deputy Mayor of Smederevo, Vladimir Nešić, who declared the festival open.
“Our rich history of viticulture and fruit growing obliges us to preserve tradition and to connect the past and the present. This festival is an opportunity to remind ourselves how important it is to preserve our home-grown products, to invest in rural development, to respect the work of farmers and to give a chance to all those who wish to continue the mission of our ancestors.
As we celebrate the 138th ‘Smederevo Autumn’, we are not only celebrating the grape harvest. We are also celebrating the spirit of togetherness, the strength of our villages and our ability to show, year after year, that Smederevo is the heart of Serbian agriculture,” said Vladimir Nešić, Deputy Mayor of Smederevo, at the opening ceremony.
In addition to numerous guests, the event was also attended by Archbishop Ignjatije of Braničevo with members of the clergy.

The opening ceremony of the 138th “Smederevo Autumn” was preceded by the agricultural and business exhibitions, which presented Smederevo’s production potential.
Participants in the “Smederevo Always Open” parade passed through the city streets, and after the opening ceremony visitors were able to attend concerts on the City Square and in the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress.
Throughout the festival, alongside the sales exhibition of honey, flower, wine, fruit and souvenir producers on the City Square, visitors are also offered a panoramic sightseeing tour of the city from the water and a visit to the Obrenović Villa.
In addition to the main programme, “Smederevo Autumn” will also feature a varied side programme in Smederevo’s cultural institutions, as well as numerous sports competitions at various locations in the city.
