The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, and her associates today visited several locations where works are being carried out to improve the flood protection system.
She first visited the roadside channel near the old steelworks, where works are under way to increase the capacity of the channel so that it can take larger quantities of stormwater during heavy rainfall.
The main aim of these works is to reduce the retention of water on the carriageway and to create conditions for safer and unobstructed traffic flow.
She then visited the Vučački potok stream, a first-order watercourse, where vegetation is currently being cleared, and desilting of the channel bed is planned in the next phase.
These activities are intended to increase the flow capacity of the watercourse and to prevent the risk of it overflowing and flooding the surrounding area.
During the visit, the Mayor also went to the Badrika site, also a first-order watercourse, where the same measures are planned in the coming period.
“The City of Smederevo is continuing to carry out activities aimed at preventing floods, improving municipal infrastructure and creating safer living conditions for all citizens,” the Mayor said on that occasion.
