“To the prom without a car” forum held

Published

As part of the campaign “To the prom without a car”, run by the Road Traffic Safety Agency of the Republic of Serbia, a forum for future school leavers from Smederevo’s schools was held today in the Assembly Hall of the City Administration in Smederevo. This year’s campaign message is “On the road to 0, don’t rev it up, graduate!”

With prom season approaching, when young people mark the end of their schooling in a more relaxed atmosphere, this form of education has come at just the right time and aims to inform them about the risks of unsafe behaviour in traffic and how to avoid them. The campaign focuses on adopting positive attitudes, encouraging correct behaviour among young people and reducing road casualties.

“For the City of Smederevo, young people are always a priority, and now that the proms are approaching it is very important to us to take every measure to help our school leavers get there safely and get home safely,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, at the opening of the forum, highlighting the importance of the campaign, which covers 56 local governments in Serbia.

The pupils were then addressed by the Director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency of Serbia, Branko Stamatović, who appealed to future school leavers to plan their journeys to and from the proms carefully in terms of transport, to behave responsibly and to resist the urge to prove themselves behind the wheel, because traffic always carries risks, whether you are a driver or a pedestrian.

As part of today’s forum in Smederevo, the young people also had the opportunity to hear the personal story of the educator Milan Srdić, who suffered serious injuries resulting in permanent disability after falling from a motorcycle at the age of eighteen.
