First and foremost, the City of Smederevo apologises to citizens for the inconvenience and problems they have faced in the recent period as a result of disruption to urban and suburban transport services.
Today we held constructive meetings with all the relevant parties with the aim of finding a solution that will ensure stable transport for our citizens as soon as possible.
The company “Lasta” (which had earlier, on its own initiative, stopped performing the valid contracts signed with the City of Smederevo) will continue to perform them until they expire and will sell monthly tickets to pensioners and other citizens entitled to concessionary travel.
We would remind you that the City of Smederevo has already prepared a public-private partnership project for urban and suburban transport as a public utility service in the territory of the City of Smederevo, and we expect to receive approval for this project from the competent commission of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, after which the conditions will be in place to launch the procedure and select a partner who will provide high-quality and reliable public transport in the long term.
In addition, the City of Smederevo will relaunch the public procurement for public transport for secondary school pupils and students, after no carrier responded to the previous public procurement.
In the meantime, we have found a solution for transporting pupils so that they can attend classes without disruption.
The aim is to secure, in the meantime, carriers who will provide this service responsibly and reliably for the citizens of Smederevo.
The City of Smederevo is committed to solving this problem and is taking all available measures to provide citizens with regular, safe and reliable public transport.
At the same time, I call on representatives of the opposition and all other ill-intentioned actors not to abuse the current situation and use it to score cheap political points.
Once again, we thank citizens for their patience and understanding.
