A ceremony to present scholarship contracts to students of Roma nationality was held today at the City Administration in Smederevo.
On that occasion, the students were received by the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, who stressed that investing in education and equal opportunities for all young people is the foundation of the local community’s development.

“By signing these contracts, the City of Smederevo confirms its commitment to improving education and social inclusion and to supporting young people of Roma nationality on their path to academic and professional success.
This measure continues the City’s responsible policy aimed at creating an inclusive society and encouraging young people to persevere in education and in the struggle to make their own living,” the Mayor emphasised while talking with the students, urging them to come back to their city after completing their studies and to start their professional careers.
The contracts went to four female students, one of whom is a final-year student at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, while the other three are in their first year at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, the College of Applied Studies in Požarevac and the “Politehnika” Academy of Applied Studies in Belgrade.
For many years, the City of Smederevo has been providing continuous support in this way to young Roma men and women, whether secondary school pupils or university students, as it wants to encourage new generations on their path to acquiring and improving knowledge.
This year, scholarships were awarded to 44 secondary school pupils and four students of Roma nationality, and RSD 2.6 million was allocated from the city budget for this purpose.
