Members of the Police Administration in Smederevo today marked, in a fitting manner, the Day and patron saint’s day of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia and Police Day.
In a festive atmosphere and with a reminder of the important role of the police in society and the difficulty of the work they do, 44 new members of the Ministry of Interior took the oath in front of the Police Administration building in Smederevo.
Stressing that their role is to serve all the citizens of the Republic of Serbia and that their work is honourable, responsible and full of challenges, the Head of the Smederevo Police Administration, Vesela Milovanović, congratulated them.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by the Deputy Mayor of the City of Smederevo, Vladimir Nešić, and the President of the City Assembly, Milan Perić.
Police Day of the Republic of Serbia is marked in memory of 1862, when, on the feast of Pentecost, Serbian gendarmes played a decisive role in the clashes at the Čukur Fountain in Belgrade and during the Turkish bombardment in the days that followed.
Since then, the police have undergone numerous changes, but serving the citizens, along with respecting the law and doing the job conscientiously and responsibly, remains their most important task.
