To mark Nikola Tesla’s birthday on 10 July and the Day of Science in Serbia, the Tesla Science Foundation of Serbia, in cooperation with the Tesla Science Foundation from the USA, is organising the major event “Nikola Tesla Days”. This year the City of Smederevo joined it for the first time, paying tribute to the famous, world-renowned Serbian scientist.
The programme of the event, entitled “Tesla in Smederevo for the First Time”, began today with a visit to the Technical School in Smederevo, a presentation of the school and special activities in the school library.
An exhibition, “The Silence of Currents”, by Jelena Gradimir was then opened at the Historical Archives.
The Regional Centre for Professional Development of Employees in Education hosted a gathering at which Tesla’s scientific work and life were discussed.
After the unveiling of a bust of Nikola Tesla, the participants in the conference “Tesla in Smederevo for the First Time” were greeted by the President of the City Assembly of Smederevo, Milan Perić, and the founder and President of the Tesla Science Foundation in Serbia and the USA, Nikola Lončar.

“With his knowledge and vision, Nikola Tesla left an indelible mark on world science, and his works and discoveries remind us that science always serves humanity. Events like this are an opportunity for all of us together to remember the brilliance of his mind, and also to bring closer to the younger generations his life and the scientific work that he successfully applied in practice and selflessly gave to the world,” said Perić, among other things.
Stressing that the Tesla Foundation has been organising the “Nikola Tesla Days” in cities across Serbia for many years, the President of the Foundation, Nikola Lončar, expressed the hope that in the coming years the event would also become a tradition in Smederevo.
Visitors were also able to see a digital exhibition entitled “Art and Technology” by the photo designer Veljko Peković, and the author Jelena Gradimir presented her exhibition, staged at the Historical Archives.

The gathering was also an occasion to present awards of the Tesla Science Foundation.
Among the recipients were the City of Smederevo; Aleksandar Nešić, a teacher at the Smederevo Technical School, who received the award posthumously; the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation; Dragan Sabljov; and Tatjana Milkić.
The “Nikola Tesla Days” in Serbia run from 1 to 15 July and are marked with a variety of special events.
