The Minister of Mining and Energy in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, today presented contracts in Smederevo to citizens who received subsidies under this year’s City public call to increase energy efficiency in their households. The Minister thanked the citizens of Smederevo for recognising that by investing in energy efficiency measures, such as replacing windows, doors and heating boilers, improving insulation, installing solar panels and the like, they can reduce their energy bills.
“In the first year after we started implementing this project, only 8 households in Smederevo took advantage of this opportunity; last year it was just over 145, and at the end of this year the result is the 82 contracts signed today,” the Minister stressed, announcing that funds for these subsidies will also be provided in the coming period.
“Last year RSD 20 million was allocated for these measures in Smederevo, while for 2023 this amount was increased by another five million,” said Jasmina Vojinović, President of the Provisional Authority of the City of Smederevo, at the contract presentation ceremony, explaining that 60 of the citizens’ applications related to replacing external doors and windows, 11 to replacing and installing gas boilers, 6 to replacing or installing new installations, four each to replacing and installing pellet boilers, installing solar panels and preparing technical documentation, and two each to installing heat pumps and solar collectors.

During her stay in Smederevo, the Minister of Energy and Mining, Dubravka Đedović Handanović, also toured the works on the extensive reconstruction of the overhead low-voltage network along the route of the mixed power distribution line along the Danube bank. The works began in July this year and include replacing poles and cables; once they are completed, according to representatives of the Smederevo branch of Elektrodistribucija, the old power line, which had been difficult to access and problematic to maintain, will be decommissioned. The reconstructed power line will provide a better electricity supply to the Orešac settlement and the village of Seone, and will also make it possible to close the loop and provide an additional supply to the villages of Udovice and Petrijevo.
