In the Plenary Hall of the City Administration, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, today held a meeting with the Council of Head Teachers of Smederevo’s primary and secondary schools on future activities that should help educational institutions in the city to function better.
The discussion covered the need to equip and refurbish school buildings in order to create good conditions for learning and work, whether in rural or urban schools.
It was announced that in the coming period an expert commission will visit all the schools to record the actual condition of the buildings and identify priority works.
According to Mayor Jasmina Vojinović, schools will always have the full support of the local government. Some of the future projects will be implemented with funds from the city budget, and some with funds to be secured from the competent ministry.
“Progress has already been made in this direction, and with the funds we received from the Ministry of Education, by 1 September we will convert the boiler rooms from heating oil to gas in four schools: the Economics and Trade School, the Technical School, the Grammar School and Primary School “Branislav Nušić”.
Our aim is to completely transform Smederevo’s schools through the necessary modernisation over the next four years,” stressed Mayor Jasmina Vojinović, adding that this year too the City will provide free textbooks for all future first-graders.
