Through the “EU for Cultural Heritage and Tourism” project, with just over EUR 65,000, the City of Smederevo will be able to install a Tourist Information Centre at Smederevo Fortress, which is visited by around 40,000 tourists a year. In addition to selling tickets and promotional material, the Centre will also provide information on what the Smederevo region and the Lower Danube have to offer tourists.
Under this project, activities will be carried out to remove the existing structure and prepare a concrete base for the new Tourist Information Centre building with an access ramp, to install the Tourist Information Centre, to install an interactive totem with content, to equip the Tourist Information Centre, to install bicycle parking and to produce promotional material.
The Tourist Information Centre will be located at the entrance to the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress and will be a place for information and interactive activities for visitors, supporting them as they explore.
The interactive totem will serve as an interactive point providing visitors with additional information. It will contain information that will allow visitors to explore the site and the destination’s attractions in more detail.
The bicycle parking will be installed next to the Tourist Information Centre, at the entrance to the Small Town of Smederevo Fortress, providing additional infrastructure for visitors who travel by bicycle. Cycling has great social, economic and environmental value. Above all, it has a positive effect on people’s health and fitness and lets them enjoy nature, and it is a cheaper, greener and often faster way to travel, with “0%” harmful gas emissions. Installing bicycle parking supports sustainable tourism and allows visitors to reach the destination using alternative means of transport.
The promotional material presents Smederevo and the Lower Danube as a tourist destination. The brochures will contain information on history, culture, entertainment and other notable tourist attractions. They will be translated into several languages (English, French, German, Russian and Chinese) in order to reach a larger number of international visitors. Tourist maps of Smederevo and of the Lower Danube will also be produced. These maps will show important sites and information on the tourist offer in Smederevo and the Lower Danube.
Once these activities have been successfully implemented, the Lower Danube region and Smederevo will gain a new dimension of tourist experience. Visitors will be able to find important information about local culture, history and landmarks, and about the richness and importance of this region, more easily and quickly.
The “EU for Cultural Heritage and Tourism” project is financed by the European Union, co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The overall objective of the project is to improve the tourist offer and infrastructure in Serbia’s Lower Danube region through more efficient use of cultural and tourism assets, thereby contributing to the objectives of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.
