HBIS Serbia in Smederevo was visited today by His Excellency the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Li Ming, and a delegation of Hebei Province led by Ms Liu Xiaomei, Executive Vice-President of the Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and Mr Wang Weiliang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Communist Party of China for Hebei Province.
They were also accompanied by the Director of the Office’s Department for European and Foreign Affairs, Yang Yuhong, the Director of the Department for International Cooperation, Zhang Jie, and a delegation of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology.
Among the dignitaries who visited and toured the plant today were the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, and the President of the City Assembly, Milan Perić.
After a welcome and a tour of a special exhibition of photographs documenting the history of the plant, the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the steelworks in 2016 and its technological innovations, the guests, together with the plant’s management, first toured the Hot Rolling Mill and the Operations Centre, and then the new Sinter Plant.
Besides discussing the results achieved so far by the Smederevo Steelworks, the meeting was also an opportunity to announce future plans. With a view to achieving high-quality development of HBIS, the talks also covered the innovations introduced at the plant so far and the investments that could follow at a later stage.
Speaking about Smederevo’s economic, tourism and cultural potential, Mayor Jasmina Vojinović expressed her satisfaction with the visit, recalling that the role of the Smederevo Steelworks in the economy of Serbia and of the city is very important, especially bearing in mind that it employs around 5,000 workers.
