Following yesterday’s heavy rainfall in the City of Smederevo area, a field inspection established that the situation on the watercourses is satisfactory and that there is currently no risk of flooding.
Because of the warning from the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia that larger amounts of rainfall could occur in the coming period, the Office for Common Affairs and Emergency Situations of the City Administration of Smederevo has determined that, as a precaution, the watercourses need to be cleared of vegetation and recent silt deposits, as these have reduced their capacity.
During the morning, an inspection was carried out of the Udovički and Golobočki streams and the Ralja, for which clearing of the watercourses is proposed. As regards roadside drainage channels, attention also needs to be paid to the lowest point on the road near the Old Steelworks.
The level of the Danube at Smederevo is also currently being monitored, and it is below the level for regular flood defence.
