Funds secured to continue remediation works on the city landfill

Published

At the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, and the Minister of Environmental Protection, Sara Pavkov, today signed a contract on the transfer of funds to continue the project for the rehabilitation and remediation of the landfill in Godominsko polje, taking another important step towards solving the city’s biggest environmental problem.

Earmarked funds of RSD 335.8 million provided by the Ministry of Environmental Protection will finance the works in the second phase of remediation and recultivation, while additional funds of RSD 83.9 million for the full completion of the project have been provided by the City of Smederevo.

The project is part of a wider strategy for improving utility infrastructure and sustainable waste management in the City of Smederevo, which, in addition to the remediation of the landfill, also includes the purchase of new lorries and additional equipment for collecting waste from rural areas, which will fully complete the system of organised waste collection across the entire territory of the city.

“This is a capital environmental project of exceptional importance for Smederevo.
The remediation of the landfill in Godominsko polje is one of our priorities, because it directly affects the quality of life of our fellow citizens and the preservation of natural resources.

By signing this contract, we are ensuring the continuity of the works and showing a clear commitment to solving long-standing environmental problems.

The implementation of this project, and of many other environmental projects, would not be possible without the strong support of the state and the vision of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, on whose initiative environmental protection has become one of our country’s priorities.

This is not only an investment in infrastructure, but an investment in a healthier and safer future for all the citizens of Smederevo,” the Mayor said after signing the contract, announcing that the City, in cooperation with the competent ministry, will continue implementing the project according to the planned schedule, with full application of modern environmental standards.
