A fire broke out at the city dump in Smederevo at around 23:00 last night and was successfully contained thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigades and the deployment of machinery and tankers from PUC “Zelenilo i groblja”, the Smederevo Steelworks and PUC “Vodovod”.
Thanks to the timely response, the fire was prevented from spreading further. As a precaution, work on the ground is continuing, including covering the site with sand and soil, in order to eliminate the possibility of the fire flaring up again.
It is assumed that a possible cause of the fire could have been the strong wind that has been blowing over the city in recent days and which remains an aggravating factor because it spreads the smoke.
Fire brigade teams and PUC “Zelenilo i groblja” remain on the ground on full alert in order to keep the situation fully under control.
