Published

A ceremony was held today at the City Administration in Smederevo to present contracts for self-employment and new employment under the programme of active employment policy measures for 2025.

Contracts were presented to 21 employers who are hiring 29 people and to 34 people who have set up their own businesses as sole traders.

“The City of Smederevo will continue to support active employment policy measures. Our aim is to have as many citizens in employment as possible, and with these measures we want to encourage them to take the step of starting their own business, because the development of the private sector helps strengthen our city’s economy,” said Vladimir Nešić, Deputy Mayor of Smederevo, at the ceremony, among other things.

According to data from the Smederevo branch of the National Employment Service, at the end of August there were 5,146 unemployed people registered in the Podunavlje District, 11.55 per cent fewer than in the same period of 2024.

Women account for 58.73 per cent of the total number of unemployed people.

In Smederevo, at the end of August 2025, the number of unemployed people stood at 1,955, compared with 2,252 in August 2024, a decrease of 13.19 per cent.

The funds allocated for employing people from hard-to-employ categories amount to RSD 230,000 per worker for employers prepared to hire them, or RSD 276,000 for unemployed persons with disabilities and people who have been registered as unemployed for more than 24 months.

Self-employment subsidies are awarded in the amount of RSD 380,000, or RSD 420,000 for unemployed persons with disabilities.

The City of Smederevo and the National Employment Service previously concluded an agreement governing their mutual rights and obligations regarding financial support for the measures in a total amount of RSD 27.5 million. In addition, the local government in Smederevo has allocated RSD 6 million from its own sources, which, through the public works measure, will provide work for 18 unemployed people.

All these measures have created the conditions for employing 88 unemployed people from hard-to-employ categories registered with the National Employment Service in Smederevo.
