Employment contracts handed over

Published

Today, at the City Administration, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, and the Director of the Smederevo Branch of the National Employment Service, Jasmina Beočanin, formally handed over contracts to recipients of subsidies for self-employment and for hiring new employees.

Under the Agreement between the City of Smederevo and the National Employment Service on regulating mutual rights and obligations in implementing the programme of active employment policy measures for 2024, joint funding of RSD 28.5 million has been allocated.

“Awarding employment contracts like these is the most rewarding part of a mayor’s job.

Compared with an earlier period, in 2014, when Smederevo had almost 12,000 unemployed people, today 2,174 people are registered with the National Employment Service. Only two weeks ago, 2,254 people were registered as unemployed, which means that another 80 people have found work in the meantime.

The City of Smederevo cares about its citizens, and that is important, because in this way unemployed people secure their livelihoods, especially young people who want to start families.

In our efforts to have as few unemployed fellow citizens as possible, following national policy and the commitment of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, to reducing the unemployment rate in the country, the City of Smederevo has for many years been co-financing active employment policy measures.

Next year we plan to increase the funding for this purpose, and we will continue to do so in the future,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, at the contract award ceremony.

Those present were then addressed by the Director of the Smederevo Branch of the National Employment Service, Jasmina Beočanin.

She pointed out that the joint funds of the National Employment Service and the City of Smederevo have created the conditions for employing more than 100 registered jobseekers.

These are people from the hard-to-employ categories, who have priority: young people up to the age of 30, people over 50, persons with disabilities, persons from foster families and others who, for economic, social or health reasons, are unable to find work easily.

At today’s ceremony, self-employment contracts were awarded to 40 people who have set up their own businesses as sole traders, and contracts were also awarded to 29 employers who have expressed interest in hiring 35 people.

Through the public works measure, 21 people have been engaged this year.
