A ceremonial gathering at the “Masuka” Cultural Centre in Velika Plana marked 190 years of the existence and work of Primary School “Heroj Sveta Mladenović” in Saraorci.
On that occasion, the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, stressed that almost two centuries of a school’s existence are not only a source of pride for Saraorci, but also a great day for education and for the whole City of Smederevo.
“Throughout its 190-year history, the school in Saraorci has shared the fate of its people, survived and developed. It has been, and remains, a beacon of knowledge, literacy and true values,” the Mayor said.
She thanked all the class teachers, subject teachers and education workers who have contributed to the development of education in Saraorci and Smederevo, and congratulated the school’s current staff on the anniversary, wishing them to remain an example of a successful and respected educational institution in the years to come.
“The City of Smederevo will continue to invest in school infrastructure and in creating safe, modern and equal conditions for education in all our communities,” the Mayor added.
The head teacher of Primary School “Heroj Sveta Mladenović” in Saraorci, Jasmina Radojković, stressed that marking this great anniversary is not only a celebration of the school’s long tradition, but also an opportunity to pay tribute to the generations of pupils, teachers and everyone who has been part of its development.
She recalled that over the decades the school has been not only a place for acquiring knowledge, but also a place of growing up, friendship, first successes and memories that last a lifetime.
She expressed special thanks to the City of Smederevo, the teachers, staff, parents, former and current pupils, and all the friends of the school who have helped this educational institution to endure and develop.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the City of Smederevo, the Municipality of Velika Plana and the School Administration, as well as numerous guests, teachers and pupils.
The programme was rounded off with performances by the school’s pupils, the choir of the Grammar School from Čačak and the tamburica orchestra “Moravska tambura”.
