Published

To mark International Danube Day, “Srbijavode” LLC, in cooperation with the City of Smederevo, the Water Management Company “Smederevo” and the Boating Club “Metalac”, organised a large educational gathering for children under the slogan “United by the Danube: play for water”.

The event brought together young people from the Boating Club “Metalac” and a Smederevo rowing club in a major riverbank clean-up and an interactive environmental workshop.

The main aim of the event was to raise environmental awareness among children, with a focus on protecting water resources, preserving river systems and promoting sustainable development. The Director of “Srbijavode”, Goran Puzović, who actively joined the clean-up of the Danube riverbank together with the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, highlighted the link between protecting nature and national goals.

“By marking Danube Day in Smederevo, we are sending the message that caring for our rivers together is key to the future and part of our progress towards the Green Agenda.

With the slogan ‘United by the Danube: let’s play for water’, which links this international river with the upcoming EXPO 2027 exhibition, we are reminding ourselves of our duty to leave cleaner and clearer waterways to new generations,” said the Director of “Srbijavode”, Goran Puzović.

The Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, expressed her pride in the turnout of young people from Smederevo and stressed the importance of the upcoming world exhibition for the local community.

“We are proud that Smederevo actively supports EXPO 2027, which is in the national interest of the whole of Serbia.

Our aim is to raise awareness of the importance of the Danube and to develop the city’s tourism potential.

Today, the youngest residents of Smederevo showed what it means to love your city and the Danube.

It is our duty to protect our natural wealth and pass it on as a legacy to future generations,” said the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović.

The organisers concluded that early education is the foundation for building healthy habits.

Thanks to the efforts of the children, the local government and the water management companies, the Danube riverbank in Smederevo now looks tidier and cleaner, sending a strong message about our collective responsibility towards the environment.
